Toads and Tadpoles

We've learned all about the eastern American toad this week. There's a pond near our house that was FULL of toads last week - you literally had to watch your step walking through the grass. Their eggs were in long slippery strands. Katherine looked them up in her "Fabulous Frogs" book and we learned what kind of toad they were - and that the eggs take about a week to become tadpoles. So we went back this afternoon and all the adult toads were gone and the pond was full of tadpoles. They were endlessly fascinating to the 4-year-olds!
