Authority, as defined by your 4-year-old

Katherine and I were talking about summer plans this week and I made some reference to the possibility that she could go fishing with Uncle Mike or her grandpa.

K: I can't, Mom...the iPhone said I wasn't old enough yet.
Me: Uh...well, if you mean you read that (????) on the iPhone, that's not true. You are old enough to go fishing if someone takes you.
K: No, the iPhone said I have to be five.
Me: Katherine, you can go fishing when you're four. I went fishing when I was four. I promise. [she continues to give me that look that implies I'm seriously out of touch with reality...so out of curiosity, I dive in with both feet...] Who do you trust more - me or the iPhone?
K: [definitively] The iPhone.
